In vivo constructed plasmid encoding clover-specific nodulation and nitrogenase
genes; originated from self-transmissible R. leguminosarum Sym plasmid pjB51j via an in vivo
recombinant event; the recombination resulted in pea-specific nod and nif genes being exchanged
for clover-specific nod and nif genes; strains of R. trifolii with this plasmid can nodulate and
fix nitrogen on clover but not on pea plants.
